UNIVERSITY OF NAMIBIA (UNAM)
The University of Namibia (UNAM) is a young dynamic public University established in 1992 through an Act of Parliament, University of Namibia Act of 1992 (Act 18 of 1992). The vision of the University of Namibia’s is to be a sustainable international hub of excellence in higher education, training, research and innovation. The University actively seeks to foster meaningful linkages with the economy and society. On the other side driving positive change and sustainable development. The University has 4 faculties & 17 schools, spread across 12 campuses. Each school is comprised of several departments which are of related disciplines. The 4 faculties include Agriculture, Engineering & Natural Sciences; Commerce, Management & Law; Education & Human Sciences and Health Sciences & Veterinary Medicine. The Faculty Agriculture, Engineering & Natural Sciences is made up of four (4) schools including the School of Science that offer practical, innovative and Industry relevant programs. The School of Science is a multi-disciplinary school with six (6) departments that offer diverse science disciplines. The research themes and programs in the School of Science at the University of Namibia address aspects of climate change, renewable energy, natural resources and environmental sustainability. Examples of active projects include the FLOURISH project which investigates nature-based solutions and urban farming in informal settlements to build adaptive capacity; the Real Test Project to enhance safety, reliability, and sustainability in green hydrogen technologies; the Renewable Energy Generation Project focused on providing sustainable, reliable, and cost-effective electricity to all 12 campuses of the University; the UNAM ZERI project which is a research initiative at the University of Namibia (UNAM) focused on sustainable agriculture; the Kunene Mapping Project aimed at assessing critical minerals for the just energy transition and groundwater potential.
